YESCO, the 104-year-old company known for creating, repairing, and maintaining well-known signs, won two awards at this year’s Colorado Sign Association (CSA) sign design contest. The company received the “Best Monument Sign” and “Designer’s Choice” awards for its Derby District Gateway sign.
YESCO fabricated the Derby District Gateway sign at its Las Vegas facility. The sign runs completely on solar power. Its solar power system sits behind the sign, so visitors cannot see it. The system can provide power for up to three consecutive days, even during periods of complete cloud cover.

The sign features a complex lighted topper and a colorful display. As a result, it creates a welcoming entrance to the Derby District of Commerce City, Colorado.
The sign measures 14 feet wide and 13 feet tall. It features trimless letters and illuminated cabinets made from textured translucent acrylic panels.
The design combines mid-century modern style with the playful look of Googie architecture. Together, these styles give the sign a distinctive appearance. The design also helps the sign stand out and welcome visitors to the district.

This year’s sign design contest received more than seventy-five entries. The entries covered several categories, including “Best Pylon Sign,” “Best Wall Sign,” “Best Unique Sign,” and “Best Monument Sign.” Judges from the Arizona Sign Association selected the winners.
